Our Story

Three generations. One notebook of recipes.

Everything we cook still traces back to a single handwritten notebook, kept behind the counter on Charoenkrung 28 since 1976.

Fifty Years, Give or Take

How the notebook grew.

1976

A cart on Charoenkrung

Malee starts selling khanom jeen from a wooden cart near the river, feeding dock workers unloading rice barges before dawn. Three curries, one recipe, no menu.

1982

The shophouse

Enough saved to rent a small shophouse on Charoenkrung 28 — the same address today. The three curries never change; everything else slowly does.

1995

The notebook begins

Malee's daughter, Pranee, starts writing every recipe down by hand — proportions, timing, the exact way a paste should smell before it's ready.

2010

A grandson, in the kitchen

Irvin, age twelve, learns to pound his first curry paste after school. The restaurant is renamed after him a few years later — the family joke was that he'd already earned it.

Today

Same notebook, third generation

Irvin now runs the kitchen. The notebook is more tape than paper in places, but nobody has ever suggested typing it up.

A Page From the Book

Khanom Jeen, unchanged since page one.

"Three curries, always in the same order. Taste the paste before the coconut milk goes in — if it needs more, it's too late after."

It's the oldest entry in the notebook, and the only dish that has never once been adjusted. Every cook in the family has learned it from the same page, in the same handwriting, for fifty years.

What Hasn't Changed

A few things we won't touch.

Recipes are inherited, never reinvented.

Nothing on the menu has been redesigned to trend. If it's not in the notebook, it's not on the table.

Every paste, pounded by hand.

Mortar and pestle, every morning, before the doors open — no shortcuts, no pre-made pastes.

Cooked to order, always.

No steam trays, no reheating. If it's busy, the wait is the point.

Family in the kitchen, every day.

Three generations have cooked here. There has never been a day the kitchen wasn't family-run.
